The Sword Diva

I started belly dancing in 1995 when I saw a class offered through Minneapolis Community Ed. I love community ed – it’s a wonderful way to try all sorts of things.

I started tribal when Amira taught it to her Continuing Master class. I love both cabaret and tribal style belly dance. Cabaret has the greatest freedom for personal expression – and the sparklies are nice too! Tribal style is great because it allows you to interact with a group in a very spontaneous way – I also like the tassels, big skirts and being loud.

I LOVE having a live band! Felahi adds a whole level of interaction – not only are dancers communicating with each other, they also are communicating with the musicians.

I teach belly dance (cabaret style and sword technique) through Golden Valley Parks and Recreation.

I also enjoy sewing (I sew most of my tribal costumes as well as an occasional quilt), gardening and I take Gumdo (Korean Sword Form Martial Art) when I can to help improve my sword technique.
