I started Bellydance in 1979 in a community ed class and fell in love with the music and the dance form. Soon I started classes with Cassandra, and studied with her for almost ten years.
Ibrahim Farrah, Suhaila, Aisha Ali, Sahra, Mahmoud Reda, Raqia Hassan, Carolena Nericcio and many other teachers and performers also influenced me through workshops and video instruction.
Fat Chance Belly Dance sparked my interest in tribal belly dance through their videos. After studying them, I started teaching tribal in my own community ed class. Some of us in TNT are from those classes.
After taking tribal workshops and seeing other tribal performers, I see a lot of value in learning from a live teacher rather than video. But if we had waited for a trained teacher, we would still be waiting.
I still enjoy raks sharki belly dance and several styles of raks shabi, especially Saiidi and Tunesian.
